PCC Consultation Survey – CCTV in Taxis

Peterborough City Council are consulting on whether mandating the installation of CCTV inside Taxis and Private Hire vehicles is proportionate and necessary to meet a pressing need.

By consulting we can consider if local circumstances exist that indicate that the installation of CCTV in licensed vehicles would have a positive or adverse effect on the net safety of licensed vehicles, drivers, and passengers.

The consultation will run for 10 weeks starting 6th November 2023 and ending on 12th January 2024

The aim of Taxi and Private Hire legislation is to ensure the public have reasonable access to these services, with a primary focus on public safety, safeguarding and wellbeing.  The Department for Transport (DfT) published statutory guidance in July 2020, which provides a strong focus to protect all passengers and drivers of Taxis and Private Hire services.

To help inform whether the council should mandate the installation of CCTV inside Taxis and Private Hire vehicles within Peterborough we have produced a short survey and would appreciate your views.
